The newest addition of downloadable content for BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins, Return to Ostagar, is set to be released next Tuesday on the 5th of January. Todd Howard of Bethesda was a keynote speaker at this years QuakeCon, and crushed the hopes of many by announcing that there are no current plans for The Elder Scrolls V.
Microsoft announced that Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost And Damned will be their next Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week for the week begining August 24th. That’s some pretty good news for those who have yet to pick up this highly acclaimed add-on for Rockstar’s award winning franchise. The price will drop from 1600 MS Points ($20 US) to 1200 MS Points ($15 US) and will be well worth it; but there is something to consider for those who have been blessed with the skill of patience.
Grand Theft Auto IV has its second downloadable episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony, hitting the retail spotlight on October 29th along with the simultaneous release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City which will be a retail pack that will include both expansions on a single disc at the cost of $39.99. Not only will this pack save you some precious hard drive space, but it will also not require the original GTA IV disc to play.
So now it’s up to you. Do you save a few bucks and purchase GTA IV: TLAD as the Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week? Or do you wait a bit longer and get both episodic content in one fell swoop and save the hard drive space? You may want to ask yourself what is better in the long run. But like I said, this is only to be considered for those who have the patience.
Infinity Ward is leaving the possibility of more DLC up to the community this time for their take on the Call of Duty franchise. Robert Bowling, Community Manager at Infinity Ward, sent an email to MTV Multiplayer yesterday afternoon with these remarks:
“As far as DLC goes, we love it and plan to support ‘Modern Warfare 2′ heavily with post-launch support. We’ve confirmed we’ll be doing AT LEAST two map packs which were announced at E3 as a timed exclusive for Xbox 360. The fact that we confirmed at least two map packs doesn’t mean there won’t be more; honestly we plan on shaping our DLC based on community feedback from the full game, and first two DLC map packs. Therefore, the community will really determine what comes after that.”
With the fact that there will be at least two map packs confirmed, and the decision for more based on community feedback; it’s pretty hard to say that there wouldn’t be any more DLC coming after the release of the first two; considering the monumental success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
So with the ball in our court, is it safe to assume that maybe we can expect more than just map packs to be released as DLC? how about an additional multiplayer mode? I suppose anything could happen, but it’s just a thought.
Major Nelson has confirmed the release of the newest Call of Duty: WaW add-on today. Map Pack 3 is available right now on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 MS Points and includes 4 all new muliplayer maps; “Battery”, “Revolution”, “Breach”, and “Der Riese” and also adds an additional 10 achievements with a total of 250 points for your gaming pleasure.
Of course. Xbox 360 owners the world over get shafted; yet again. If it’s not the Three Red Lights or the E68 error, then what is it you ask? This time it’s none other than Microsoft trying to get its grubby little hands on every hard earned cent we have.
The new DLC for Left 4 Dead, entitled “Crash Course”, leaves us shortly after the events of the No Mercy campaign where The Survivors just make a narrow helicopter escape. The content is intended to also bridge the gap up until the Death Toll campaign and will include an all new single player experience with “new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale” as well as additional multiplayer and co-operative gameplay. This all seems like it will make a nice reinforcement to the previously released Survival Pack DLC, which was free for Xbox 360 and PC gamers alike. So what’s the difference this time around?
Well, the fact that it costs 560 MS Points (about $7 US) for 360 gamers and it being free on PC is a pretty big one. As if Valve didn’t have enough controversy on their hands already.
But you can’t really place the blame on them for this one, seeing as how they did manage to release it at no cost for the PC. It just leaves us all questioning the big wigs at Microsoft as to why they feel the need to stifle an independent developer from doing what they want; which is to support their community. But I suppose the only possible answer to that question is money, and we all know how much Microsoft love the scrill’. But I digress…
The most interesting part of this new DLC is that it’s “primary goal…is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game’s existing Versus campaigns” along with adding a new recharge timer for those who enjoy playing as the infected, and a new item spawn element to make for a more balanced gameplay experience.
You can expect this new content to be released sometime in September, according to Valve’s press release, which fortunately enough isn’t too far away, but unfortunately will cost ME seven dollars.
Rockstar released a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV’s episodic content “The Lost And Damned” focusing primarily on the persona of who is believed to be the main character Johnny Klebitz. If this trailer is any indicator on what the action sequences may be like, then you can probably assume there may be a decent amount of chase scenes and some ruthless beatings in this upcoming DLC.
If this trailer isn’t enough to scratch your GTA itch, you can check out some new screenshots for the content as well in the Videos & Screenshots section
If you’re one of the many Fallout 3 fans out there who’s looking for even more to add to the experience (as if there isn’t enough already…) you can go download the Operation: Anchorage expansion (800 MS points aka $9.99), available now wherever your local DLC is sold!
This campaign is set in a virtual reality simulation of the battle that takes place in Anchorage, Alaska to liberate itself from Chinese Communist invaders during the years 2066-2067. The content itself Read more…
In an interview with IGN.com’s Hilary Goldstein, Ubisoft has announced an upcoming expansion for the stunningly visual masterpiece that is Prince of Persia. Associate Producer for the new content, Jamal Rguigui, has said that “the DLC will develop the relationship between the Prince and Elika following the end of the game and will give additional narrative elements” as well as reveal a brand new location entitled the “Underground Palace” and a new level of difficulty to the game.
But this new addition does not stop there. The new expansion will also add a brand new “Energize” power to Elika’s repertoire as well as grant the beloved Prince an intense new “Sprinting Clash” attack to stun his foes and help defeat a brand new boss, The Shapeshifter. Read more…
