Xbox Live Deal Of The Week for August 24th – GTA IV: The Lost And Damned

Microsoft announced that Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost And Damned will be their next Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week for the week begining August 24th. That’s some pretty good news for those who have yet to pick up this highly acclaimed add-on for Rockstar’s award winning franchise. The price will drop from 1600 MS Points ($20 US) to 1200 MS Points ($15 US) and will be well worth it; but there is something to consider for those who have been blessed with the skill of patience.

Grand Theft Auto IV has its second downloadable episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony, hitting the retail spotlight on October 29th along with the simultaneous release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City which will be a retail pack that will include both expansions on a single disc at the cost of $39.99. Not only will this pack save you some precious hard drive space, but it will also not require the original GTA IV disc to play.

So now it’s up to you. Do you save a few bucks and purchase GTA IV: TLAD as the Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week? Or do you wait a bit longer and get both episodic content in one fell swoop and save the hard drive space? You may want to ask yourself what is better in the long run. But like I said, this is only to be considered for those who have the patience.

Now You Can Purchase Xbox Live MS Points With PayPal

Major Nelson had a bit of news for everyone yesterday afternoon when he announced that those who live in the US can now use their PayPal accounts to buy Microsoft Points through Xbox.com. Currently it’s only available to users located in the states, but hopefully we can assume that it will be available to everyone else at a later date.

In the meantime, those who are hesitant about linking their credit cards to their Xbox Live accounts can feel somewhat relieved with this new service. All you need to do in order to link your PayPal account is to sign in via Xbox.com and head over to your Account Summary page. From there, it’s just a hop, skip, and jump away to “Manage Payment Options” and “Add PayPal Account”.

Just remember, you can only purchase MS Points using PayPal through Xbox.com and NOT via your console. But who knows, maybe that’ll change eventually too.

Xbox 360 Games On Demand Gets Price Tagged At $20-$30

August 6, 2009 Leave a comment

Xbox-360-Games-On-Demand

A part of the new Dashboard update coming to Xbox Live on August 11th is going to be a new feature called “Games on Demand” which will act much like the Xbox Originals feature did in the NXE update. This new component to Xbox Live will contain a library of already released Xbox 360 titles available for digital download whenever you so desire.

There are currently 21 games on the launch roster thus far, and according to Joystiq, they will be priced from anywhere between 1600-2400 MS Points ($20-$30 US) and will have the option of a credit card purchase rather than the good ol’ “rape-you-in-the-butt-with-a-stick-and-break-it-off” method of buying far more MS points than you actually needed.

And that list is as follows:

  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Call of Duty 2
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Fight Night Round 3
  • Kameo: Elements of Power
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
  • Mass Effect
  • Meet The Robinsons
  • MX vs. ATV Untamed
  • Need for Speed Carbon
  • Need for Speed: Most Wanted
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Prey
  • Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis
  • SEGA Rally
  • Test Drive: Unlimited
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
  • Tomb Raider: Legend
  • Viva Pinata
  • Viva Pinata 2: Trouble in Paradise

So now comes the bad part…

You can find most of these games for much cheaper in any used bin at your local Gamestop/EB Games, eBay, or Amazon. Not to mention that each game will be a 4-6 GB download; leaving those without a hard drive out completely. And for those of you with a hard drive? You may have room to purchase around 10-20 games assuming that you have a brand new 60GB or 120GB hard drive with nothing on it; but if you’re like me, just looking at another save file might just make it explode. So this whole thing just sounds a bit ridiculous, right?

Can you really see yourself taking advantage of this new feature? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

A Fresh New Look At The Halo Universe

July 29, 2009 Leave a comment

So in case you haven’t heard, Microsoft has announced a new project in the works for the Halo Franchise at this years Comic-Con. The new project entitled “Halo Legends” is to be a series of seven anime short films to expand the ever growing story within the Halo universe. The animation of these films will be conducted by five of the biggest names in the anime industry; Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei Animation along with the production being governed by Creative Director, Shinji Aramaki, best known for his work as director of “Appleseed” and “Appleseed Ex Machina”.

Six of these stories will be fully inducted into the official Halo doctrine, while the episode created by Toei will be directed at a more child-like audience and will not be included in the official mythology.

But even more suprising is the fact that of all these promo posters, the one created by Production I.G.,  WILL be included in the official Halo canon, which is a bit strange considering the fact that it reveals a Spartan in a field of brightly colored flowers and a teddy bear. Yeah, I know, don’t get me started. But you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, right?

But regardless of that fact, some of these short animated pieces are looking to be a bit promising and a preview will be available on Halo Waypoint, which will be a new focal point in the next Xbox Live Dashboard update coming this Fall. You can also expect a full retail release from Warner Bros. on DVD, Blu-Ray, & digitally in early 2010. But for now, you can catch a glimpse of these six promotional posters below. Enjoy! Read more…
